BEST PRACTICES

Below, individuals and Chapters share what they have learned.

Fundraising
In order for a charity to offer donors the ability to have their contributions be tax-deductible, the charity must be registered with the IRS as a non-profit organization. Although only one of our Chapters is registered, other geographic areas can offer this advantage to potential donors, as long as contributions are to The Holiday Project and they are deposited in the national account.

If you receive donations, send checks made out to The Holiday Project, along with a Report of Deposited Funds to Melinda Sedlacek,
The Holiday Project Treasurer, 2632 Tartan Drive, Santa Clara CA 95051.

If you want to use deposited funds, mail a Request for Use of Deposited Funds to Melinda Sedlacek, The Holiday Project Treasurer, 2632 Tartan Drive, Santa Clara CA 95051.

Donna Martin organized a fundraiser for THP last December at Fish City Grill Restaurant in Houston, Texas. The restaurant donated 15% of their sales for the day to THP. Donna asked local businesses to help promote the event. This is something that can be done in any community. See the Flyer.

Gifts
Hand Made Cards
-- Lots of people love to make cards. When outside a room, check to see if someone’s name is on a sign. Then you can write that person’s name on the card before delivering it.

Visits
Ice Cream Social
-- Just about everyone loves ice cream. You might even be able to get it donated. Then schedule a date and time to have a party in a common area of a facility.

Take Care -- Always remember that if a resident or a patient asks you to help with anything that involves touching, feeding, or moving, always ask a staff member to help.
