The Holiday Project Adopt-A-Home School Project

In the project, an educational institution is matched up with a geographically convenient nursing home.  A representative from the educational institution (which can be either an educator or a student) works with the Activities Department at the home to schedule one or more Visits.

During Visits, volunteers spend time with residents. They offer needed conversation and companionship and they can even bring holiday cards and/or gifts. More often than not, volunteers walk away with the experience that they not only gave a special gift but they got a greater one in return.

Reasons to Participate in The Holiday Project Adopt-A-Home School Project:

  • The project can be done once or any number of times.
  • The same or different people can participate.
  • The location and schedule is entirely determined by the project leader.
  • There is minimal pre-project preparation.
  • There is no age restriction for participants.
  • There is flexibility in determining the specific program. In addition to one-on-one visiting, groups can organize singing and craft-making events and can also join events being planned by the facility.
  • Add-on projects can be organized i.e. before the visit, cards and holiday decorations can be made and brought to the home.
  • The result is guaranteed!
