Mission Statement

The Mission of The Holiday Project is to enrich the experience of the holidays by arranging visits to people confined to nursing homes, hospitals and other institutions

"We gave gifts and sang songs, but it was as if the songs and the gifts were just the excuse we used to be close to each other. Now I have only to touch my experience of The Holiday Project to have the holiday season be the way I always wanted it to be."

What We Do

Each year, more than three million people spend their holidays confined to institutions. Many have outlived their relatives and friends or for some, those people have moved far away. Life for some of these people is often a lonely experience with few opportunities to make a difference. At the same time, many other people look for ways to make their holidays more fulfilling ... ways to return themselves to the true spirit of the season. The Holiday Project provides an opportunity that satisfies both these needs.

The Holiday Project is a national non-profit organization of thousands of volunteers who, every year, visit with hundreds of people spending Christmas and Chanukah and other holidays confined to hospitals, nursing homes and other institutions.

What makes the Holiday Project so special is that our visitors not only contribute to others, they also allow others to contribute to them.

Legal Stuff

The Holiday Project was incorporated in July 1980 in California as a nonprofit public benefit corporation.

Tell Me More

What does the Holiday Project do?  In over 31 cities in the United States The Holiday Project organizes visits to people who are institutionalized in hospitals, nursing homes and penal institutions on holidays.

We coordinate with the institutions, train team leaders, recruit volunteers to visit as a team on various holidays. The team spends a few hours at the institution ensuring that the residents of the institution are aware that they are remembered.

What makes The Holiday Project unique?  Our events are almost always on the day of the Holiday.  This ensures that people remember that they were visited and had someone to be with them on the Holiday.

What other things does The Holiday Project do in addition to visits?  We organize school classes to make greeting cards.  We make and deliver token gifts to those in the institutions and we sponsor several fun fund raising events to support our work.
